Hello my name is Tom Leckie. I am a salesman at the Rose City Ford car dealership in Windsor. I have a beautiful wife Robin and three children Eric, Matthew and Miranda. Three years ago I fell ill in Ottawa while on vacation with my family. I went to the Ottawa Hospital where I was told I had a problem with my liver and that I should get back home and look into the situation. After a ten day stay in the hospital in Windsor I was released and fortunately got an appointment with Dr. Ghent in London. He thought he knew what I had but wanted a blood test done first to confirm. I indeed had what he thought ( alfa1antitripson deficiency disease ).
After treating me for six months or so I was listed for a liver transplant. That was two and a half years ago. After severe complications with my lungs filling up with fluid and a month in the hospital, I got the call from my coordinator that a donor liver (my type) was being harvested. The next morning I would be in surgery by 10 am. I am told I was awake and writing notes back in fourth with family. Two days later my surgeon spoke to my family and said they were going to have to go back in again as the blood flow was not working and the liver was dying. So after more surgery (a few more hiccups as I call them), I came home one month later. Now after a few more months at home rehabilitating I started back to work with a new lease on life.
Family and friends – I can’t begin to thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. All the best to everyone waiting for a transplant and everyone who was lucky enough, like me, to be saved.

Tom was thrilled to let everyone know that he returned to Rose City Ford on March 10, 2011. After being fortunate enough to receive a much-needed liver transplant, he is now healthy once again and has a new “lease” on life.
He looks forward to servicing his customer’s needs for new or used car purchases and, of course, leases. We encourage you to come by the dealership to see the new Fords coming in every day and visit Tom. Tom says he continues to be amazed and proud of the new technologies in Ford cars, and to be sure to ask about Sync and My Ford Touch.
He wanted to take this opportunity to thank his families – at home and at Rose City – and his many customers for their unwavering support during his recent adventure. He looks forward to the future with optimism and confidence and he welcomes the opportunity of working with each of you for your vehicle needs. ***
Sport Fest Windsor pays tribute to the Donor families for making a compassionate and courageous decision at a time of unbearable grief in their lives. Many lives have been saved and they have given the Gift of Life to others. THERE IS NO GREATER GIFT!
It is then important to discuss your wishes with your family.
