CODE OF CONDUCT

Riverside Ravens Floor Hockey exists to provide the best program for all children. The opportunity is intended to be a learning and enjoyable experience for everyone.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Parents should:

  • Relax and enjoy their child’s floor hockey experience
  • Stress the importance of improving one’s play and less on winning
  • Display examples of good sportsmanship
  • Work with coaches, allow them to coach – do not yell out instructions
  • Encourage fair play and team effort
  • Refrain from criticism of referees and officials
  • Speak privately to officials if a problem arises
  • Provide visiting friends and family with expectations of proper conduct
  • Be responsible that your child is on time

Respect:

Players:

Realize that all players, regardless of ability are team contributors. Please encourage everyone and do not engage in insults or criticisms.

Coaches, Referees, Officials:

These volunteers have freely given their time and expertise to the children of Riverside Floor Hockey. Your appreciation for their efforts is paramount to the continued success of our programme. Our players will emulate your positive attitude. Negative behaviour will not be tolerated.

Facilities and Equipment

Ensure that players respect the uniforms and equipment provided by Riverside Floor Hockey. We are tenants at this playing / storage facility. Please leave the gyms damage and garbage free.

FLOOR HOCKEY RULES

FLOOR HOCKEY RULES

LOSS OF POSSESSION

  1. Shot from centre circle being shot directly on net.
  2. Advancing puck with hand to gain play advantage. Face off shot from centre shot over boards.
  3. Goalie holding puck more than 3 seconds after having control.

ONE MINUTE PENALTIES

  1. Offensive player in goalie crease. No contact is made with the goalie.
  2. Delay of game by not going on the floor and taking stick, interfering with play. If player cannot get stick, then leave floor until he/she can. Do not stand on the floor without a stick.
  3. Banging stick on the floor.
  4. Bending blade of stick
  5. Contact with the goalie in the crease.

TWO MINUTE PENALTIES

  1. High-Sticking (stick above the waist)
  2. Slashing
  3. Playing puck, after falling, while still on the floor.
  4. Roughing
  5. Pushing
  6. Stick between legs of another player either from front or back. Same thing with putting foot between legs of another player.
  7. Tripping
  8. Lifting another player’s stick and causing a high stick
  9. Intentionally hitting or kicking puck while going on or coming off the floor.
  10. Unsportsmanlike behaviour-mouthing off, throwing stick or helmet, out of control antics, etc.

The above two minute penalties are minimums. More penalty minutes may be given based on the severity of the infraction. In this scenario, additional minutes served may be a player penalty (served on the bench) rather than a team penalty(loss of player on the floor). In severe situations, the player may be removed from the game and be subjected to further disciplinary action by the league executive. More than six penalty minutes in a game will result in removal of the player for the remainder of the game. A second occurrence during the season will result in removal from the game plus an additional game. A third occurrence during the season will result in the removal from the game plus three additional games. A fourth occurrence during the season will result in removal from the game and expulsion from the league with no refunds of money.

WHY CHILDREN PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS

  1. To have fun
  2. To improve their skills
  3. To stay in shape
  4. To be good at something
  5. For the excitement
  6. To get exercise
  7. To play as part of a team
  8. For the challenge
  9. To learn new skills
  10. To win

Participating in sport primarily for winning, gaining recognition, and attaining awards can be detrimental to children. Children do not play sports to entertain adults or put their parents in an achievement arms race with other parents. Sports should teach valuable life lessons, be sheer fun and not be predicated on a few kids winning and everybody else losing. Sports should minimize competition, de-emphasize winning and emphasize FUN, FITNESS, FAIR PLAY and FUNDAMENTAL MOTOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT if they are to be of real value to the children that play.
